Playing Chess Online

As you know, Chess is a game played between two players on a 64 square chess board. Each player has sixteen pieces including one king and queen, two knights, bishops, and rooks and eight pawns. Different pieces move different ways. The object of the game is to checkmate the opponent’s king meaning that there is no place to move it or another piece to protect it.

Playing Chess Online
Those playing chess online either play against the computer or against human opponents. Playing against a computer can be very frustrating since the computer wins. Some software programs, however, are designed to make occasional mistakes.

Online chess can be played with other people by correspondence chess where you play and then your opponent plays the next time they log on or through live chess which almost feels like playing face to face using a board.
Rules for chess online are pretty much the same as for board chess but there are time limits depending on the game and site.

Players
Chess online games are rated and with thousands of players it’s a matter of choosing who to play with. Beginners won’t have an accurate rating initially.

Tournaments
Chess online tournaments are plentiful and on a regular basis so it’s just a matter of signing up. Some are free and some have fees or require membership. It’s important to read the instructions and rules specific to each tournament.

Forums
Since chess has been around since the late 1500’s and is one of the world’s most popular games, there are many forums where members discuss its history, rules, game strategies, and more.

Other online games
Anyone with a computer can play chess online. For those who love games there are numerous other online games also. It’s just a matter of surfing to find the right game.
